Gemma’s Story

Glasgow Caledonian University

Winner of Best Charity Film at the Third Sector Excellence Awards 2023, this animation exposes the horror of being a victim of domestic abuse and stalking – and how our justice system is failing women.

The script is made of direct quotes from women interviewed by researchers at Glasgow Caledonian University. Combined with evocative, hand-drawn animations, it is harrowing, thought-provoking film designed to make a difference.

Reached over 15,000 on social media at the launch. Public comments included “Super powerful.” “So poignant” “Beautifully done!” “Honest and painful story of so many women.” “More people will now understand. We need change and this will help!”

What they say

We chose media co-op because we value their ethos and their process. The most important thing for us about this animation has been the impact it’s had. The film has been seen well over 20,000 times and even won an award. Most poignant though has been the feedback from women who took part in our research and whose voices are now being heard through the film: “Thank you for how well you represented us. I hope this is the start of future change.”

Awards

We were so chuffed when this film was selected as a finalist Best Charity Film in the prestigious Third Sector Awards, against fierce competition films from right across the UK.
