Job Description | : | The Intern’s core role will be to produce digital design across a range of projects under the direction of the Digital Media Manager. These include: project branding; DVD menu and packaging design; web design; film titles and astons; animations and motion graphics. We would hope that the intern would have some skills in the application of design across a range of platforms including online, video and interactive. As we work on fairly short turnaround times, the projects the Intern will be working on will depend on when the Internship begins and the stage the ‘live’ projects are at. However, we would try to ensure that the Intern would work on a project from start to finish and would be involved in a range of project types, potentially from online to feature documentary. As an indication, we are currently involved in 8 production projects (all with design requirements); 2 web projects; one social media project; and a training project – all for the third sector. Plus 3 documentary feature film projects. We would also hope that the intern could be involved in developing project ideas and in pitching new projects. As part of a small team in the mediaco-op office, the Intern will be expected to participate in project meetings and contribute positively on a creative and organisational level; and take their turn in any other office duties, as reasonably required. |
Person Specification | : | Essential: – Creative flair as demonstrated by an exciting and varied portfolio – Solid technical and creative skills in design, motion graphics and animation using Aftereffects, Photoshop and motion. – Some technical skills in the application of design and motion into various platforms including web, interactive and video. – Curiosity and willingness to learn – Passion for equality and social justice (demonstrated through volunteering, campaigning or previous work experience) Desirable: – Mature and responsible attitude – Excellent social and inter-personal skills – An interest in visual storytelling. – Skills and interest in photography/ video – Organised, with methodical approach to file management |
Additional information | : | We are a social enterprise, based on a strong set of principles. We like to work with individuals who, like us, love to create but who also share our values and are passionate about social justice, equalities and the environment. |
Additional Skills | : | The Intern will gain experience of concept development and presentation; animation, motion graphics and graphic design in a real environment. They will get more familiar with key pieces of industry software including Abode Creative Suite inc: Photoshop, After Effects as well as Motion and Final Cut … and they may also introduce us to software, plugins, tools and platforms that we don’t know and we welcome learning from the Intern, too! Due to the cross media nature of design, we would expect that the design intern would have an interest in photography and video combined with a desire to improve and expand on their skills. In house training will be provided to meet hard skills needs, as identified in the initial skills audit; and the Digital Designer’s existing technical skills in this area will be honed through practice and repetition. Alongside the development of hard skills the intern will also have the opportunity to grow their softer ones. This will include inter-personal skills and skills in personal organisation and responsibility. Developing listening skills, particularly the ability to listen, take feedback and respond appropriately. Understanding and responding to briefs. Team working. The Internship may well include meeting with clients on some projects (with the Digital Media Manager), so excellent listening skills, tact, solid social skills and an understanding of the importance of confidentiality will all be developed further. This is especially important as many of media co-ops clients work in sensitive areas with very vulnerable people. These soft skills are essential for survival and success within the industry and the Intern will get a really good opportunity to develop these and them into practice alongside the ‘harder’ applied technical and design skills. |
